SEEKERS OF THE WYRD
Seekers of the Wyrd is a coven and a church dedicated to teaching Wicca and practicing the Craft. While it fluctuates in size, it is currently comprised of three permanent members: Steve, Peggy, and Katy. Steve, Peggy and Katy met in 1998 at the year-and-a-day class taught by “As Always” coven, an affiliate of the Church and School of Wicca. We formed Seekers of the Wyrd in 2000 and started teaching our own year-and-a-day class that same year. We have been working together and teaching the class ever since.

Seekers of the Wyrd Church – ATC, Inc., is an affiliate of the Aquarian Tabernacle Church (ATC). ATC is an internationally recognized church which follows the British Traditional Wicca (BTW). Seekers draws on this tradition but also borrows from many paths, making it a very eclectic coven. We are three very different people with widely varying backgrounds and life experiences. Our coven does not use a hierarchy or structure – we make all decisions as a group. We feel this is our greatest strength and that it enables us to overcome our diverse personalities and meld our experiences into a coherent force.

Wyrd is derived from the Germanic wurþa-. Cognate with Old Saxon wurd, Old High German wurt, Old Norse urðr (Swedish öde). A good metaphor for wyrd is spinning with a drop spindle. As the fibers turn round and round, they twist together and become thread. In Norse mythology three female entities called the Norns are responsible for shaping lives out of ørlög, the layers of the past. Their names are Urðr (Wyrd) ‘that which has become’; Verðandi (related to the Anglo-Saxon weorþan, see above) ‘that which is in the process of becoming’; and Skul d (Should) ‘that which should necessarily be’. They were responsible for weaving the web of the wyrd. This demonstrates how all things are inner connected and that you can’t change even a single thread without affecting the entire pattern in some way.

She currently devotes her time to her family, teaching Wicca classes, teaching karate and doing healings.

What is so attractive about Wicca is the discovery of the complexity and interconnectivity of the universe and divinity in the on-going search for the nature of our existence.

Peggy
Peggy was married for 20 years before declaring her independence and boldly venturing into the world with two children. She is now a grandmother of Two. Peggy grew up in Texas but has traveled to and lived in many places. Attracted to the warm breezes and magical atmosphere, she came to Pinellas County about ten years ago. Peggy now helps people from all over the world realize their dream vacations on the sandy shores of beautiful St. Petersburg Beach.

Peggy is a self-initiated Witch, an initiate of Church and School of Wicca , a founding member of the Seekers of the Wyrd, a healing partner of the Pilgrimage Integrative Method, a Reike practitioner, and the coven mead mistress. She devotes her free time to her family, especially to helping raise her grandson, teaching Wicca, labyrinth construction at Beltaine and Samhain, and keeping Steve and Katy organized.

I feel Wicca is a common sense approach on how to achieve a much needed and wholesome relationship with our Mother Earth. With the growing numbers interested in learning about Wicca, I enjoy being able to present it to everyone who cares to learn.

Steve
Steve Joined the United States Navy at age 17 and traveled around the world for many years. While in the Navy, he attended Griffin College near Seattle, Washington, where he earned his Bachelors of Science in computer science. He worked for many years as the mainframe technician on submarines. Steve now works as a network engineer for an international corporation and designs web sites for several small businesses.

Steve is a certified scuba diver; a Reiki Master; an As Always (a Church and School of Wicca affiliate) initiate and instructor; a healing partner of the Pilgrimage Integrative Healing Process; a former member of the Rune Gild and a working Rune Master, and a founding member of Seekers of the Wyrd. He devotes his time to teaching Wicca classes, teaching Rune lore and doing healings.

What I find appealing about paganism and Wicca is the earth based aspect of the religion and the concept of personal responsibility for our actions. We are as much a part of mother earth as anything and everything else.
