Year and a Day Class
This class is for the serious seeker only. It class will be a structured class consisting of outside reading and assignments, class lectures and discussions, and hands-on practice. The first part of each class will focus on the book then currently being read. We will be reading at least one book every month. Some books are longer than others. You will be tested on the reading material, but the best results will be obtained by your full participation, which means you should do all of the assigned reading.
The second part of the class will be spent in lecture and discussion. This will be a survey type class the goal of which will be to expose you to a wide variety of topics which we feel are relevant to understanding Wicca and why you may choose this path. Due to the huge volume of potential subjects, it is not possible to cover any subject in great depth. That is the beauty of Wicca – you never stop learning.
In addition to a serious time commitment, you will be asked to obtain a book of shadows and any applicable divinatory or healing tools. Your book of shadows will contain all rituals you ever do, important observations you make in your lifetime, and other significant magical reference materials. If your chosen methods of divination and healing require tools (such as Tarot, Pendulum, Ouija, Healing Stones, etc.), you will be asked to obtain those as well. There are, however, plenty of methods of divination and healing that do not require tools.
At some point, the students will be asked to prepare and perform a ritual. The students will be responsible for all aspects of the ritual. This includes the purpose for the ritual, all speaking parts, and all tools and materials.
During the year, the coven usually attends at least two festivals – Beltaine and Samhain – in the Ocala National Forest. You are welcome (and encouraged but not required) to attend and camp with the coven.
The goal of this class is to make you think about the Wicca path and whether it is your path. At the conclusion of the year and a day, if you desire, there will be a ritual to initiate you into the Craft.
